Staff Spotlight: Meet Saul

When Saul Hammond was looking at job opportunities, he knew he wanted to do something meaningful with his work. He found YSS and knew it would be the perfect fit.

Thirteen years later, Saul still loves the purpose-driven work he does at YSS. Today, Saul is an employee liaison on the newly rebranded People Development team, formerly known as the HR department, at YSS headquarters in Ames. He manages onboarding for new staff, in addition to working with benefits and workers’ compensation. His department is also kick-starting a new employee wellness program for YSS staff.

Of his many years of employment, Saul has one special memory: his service dog, Thorpe, who is now retired.

“About a year after I started working here, I got my service dog, Thorpe. The staff helped me organize the funds and take time off to attend his training in Kansas,” Saul explains. “When I returned, Thorpe became a mascot for the office; everyone really enjoyed having him around.”

When asked about his favorite part of working here, he talked about the personal rewards.

“This is a place where anytime you have a role here, you are investing in the communities we all share—for both the present and down the road,” Saul says.
