YSS receives $200,000 grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity

YSS received a $200,000 grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity to help fund the YSS Francis Lauer Building Hope Campus Renovation.

The Variety grant helped launch the YSS Francis Lauer Building Hope capital campaign, funds from which will transform the facility to reflect best practices for the care and evolving needs of the youth and families we serve. With the aid of this grant, YSS Francis Lauer is nearing completion of Phases 1 and 2, which included building a new Wellness Center and updating the Adolescent Residential Addiction Recovery Center for our youth. The remaining three phases includes plans to update the education wing and expand our outpatient behavioral health clinic and a crisis intake center.

“Healing best takes place in an environment where people feel safe and comfortable, and the current facilities simply don’t allow us to provide that atmosphere so necessary to achieving positive outcomes.  Once the five phases of this remodel are complete, youth and families will benefit from increased access to behavioral health programming, a new wellness center, a Crisis Intake Center, enhanced windows throughout all buildings on campus (natural daylight is a true benefit in healing from trauma), a homelike and healing environment for the Residential Adolescent Addiction Treatment program, and improved classrooms for the many students enrolled in the Mason City Partnership School,” remarked Hansen.

“Variety is grateful for the opportunity to support YSS Francis Lauer as it continues to provide services and treatment to help youth embrace their full potential,” said Sheri McMichael, executive director of Variety. “Behavioral health needs across the state are significant, and Variety looks forward to seeing the transformed campus in northern Iowa provide best-in-class care to youth who need it most.”
