YSS Receives $10,000 Grant from Bayer Fund

Donation to feed homeless youth at YSS’s Rosedale Shelter in Ames.

Ames, IA / March 10th 2021 – YSS announces receipt of a grant for $10,000 from the Bayer Fund, which
is being used to provide youth at Rosedale Shelter with a high quality balanced diet. The funds allow YSS
to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables; dairy products; and fish, chicken, and meat, which are typically
more expensive and therefore less likely to be served regularly.

The added variety and addition of more fresh options ensures kids will be eating well, which is critical for
overall growth and development. “The Bayer Grant funds support Rosedale Shelter by providing us with
the means to fill in the gaps in donations and serve complete, healthy meals on a consistent basis. The
Bayer funds also allow staff to stock up on a wide variety of healthy foods, including the most highly
requested fresh fruits and vegetables. Having fresh fruits and vegetables available at all times provides
youth who’ve experienced food shortage in their past with a sense of safety and comfort due to the
consistency and availability of these items,” remarked Emily Rebollozo, YSS Child Welfare Emergency
Services Program Coordinator.

Rebollozo also shared that receiving this grant provided Rosedale Shelter with critical support it needed
after the derecho in August 2020. “This donation helped Rosedale Shelter restock the fridges and
freezers after everything was lost due to the extended power outage.”

“Throughout the years, the grants given through Bayer Fund have helped strengthen our communities
across the United States,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “We’re proud to be able to provide
support to develop programs that help combat challenges such as food insecurity, STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math) education and support services to patients and families managing
an illness or disease.”

In 2019, Bayer Fund awarded more than $14 million to over 3,200 charitable and nonprofit
organizations to help address essential needs in food and nutrition, STEM education and community
development. Over the last five years, nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received more than
$79 million.
