Meet the Team: Matthew Voorhees
Matthew Voorhees has worked at YSS for the last 5 years and has served as the Residential Program Director for Ember Recovery, the adolescent substance use program, for the past several years. Matthew’s responsibilities include overseeing the functions and performance of the program as a whole, including client programming and staff management.
Matthew grew up in Mexico, Indiana and in high school he participated in basketball, football, student council, and choir. At first, Matthew thought he would become a defense attorney, but his own personal experiences made him change his mind.
After some difficult family situations and bad decisions of his own, Matthew became involved in substance use and crime in his late teens. Matthew was provided the opportunity to change his life through substance use treatment. Over the last 20 plus years, Matthew has worked in residential treatment settings and has also received a pardon from the Governor of Indiana for the crimes he committed when younger.
Moving forward, Matthew attended Capella University and received his master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Matthew strongly believes that, “Not everyone changes right away, but you can plant the seeds of hope and provide someone with a better future.”
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys spending time with his kids, reading, and doing music, he plays guitar, piano, and sings. Thank you for all your hard work at Ember Recovery, Matthew!
