Give Hope and Opportunity

YSS is proud to be one of the oldest and largest nonprofits in the state. Our programs impact tens of thousands of youth and families each year—but none of that would be possible without the generosity and support of our donors. Your gift can help youth achieve their dreams. Your gift can bring hope and opportunity. Your gift can save lives.

Donor Spotlights

<<
Mary Ann and Jim Black

Mary Ann and Jim Black

The couple have supported YSS youth for nearly 20 years, including establishing a YSS Collegiate Recovery Scholarship. In 2021, Mary Ann and Jim made a $500,000 commitment to Ember, YSS's recovery campus.

“Post-treatment, we think a supportive college environment encouraged by scholarships and the vast network of successful YSS program graduates will enhance the continued success of new graduate.”

Jon and Betty Torgerson

Jon and Betty Torgerson

Betty joined the IHYC Community Advisory Board in 1993 and continues to be an active board member and volunteer today, coordinating fundraisers and preparing meals at the drop-in center. In 2008, Betty’s family established the Betty Torgerson Endowment Fund for IHYC program participants.

“There are certain groups that are invisible in our society. IHYC and YSS are doing what they can to help by creating opportunities for youth to become productive and happy adults.”

Elizabeth Zaletel

Elizabeth Zaletel

Elizabeth has been giving her time and treasure to YSS since 2000. A former YSS youth advisory board member, she is now chair of the advisory board for IHYC.

"When my home burned down, my friends, family, and co-workers helped me out. The youth homeless population may not have that support system. This is why I strive to ensure IHYC youth can access resources to get on their feet."

Dennis and Patsy Kollbaum

Dennis and Patsy Kollbaum

From serving on the YSS of Boone County advisory board to volunteering at Teen Maze to contributing financially, Patsy and Dennis have made a significant impact at YSS.

“We know YSS does so much for so many young people. Even in our small community of Boone, there is a great deal of need—we want to help as much as we can.”

The Lohse Family

The Lohse Family

The Lohses have supported the idea of Ember Recovery Campus from the beginning and made a $750,000 pledge toward the project. They are excited to have a best-in-class treatment facility right here in Iowa, because they previously had to make the difficult decision to send their son, Drake, to a Texas-based program to get him the help he needed.

“The ability for kids to receive treatment in close proximity to their family is so important."
