YSS of Hamilton County
YSS founder Dr. George Belitsos had the idea to bring services to Hamilton County, enlisting the help of the League of Women Voters.
Passionate supporters worked hard to champion the idea in Webster City, inviting community members to get involved and provide resources to at-risk youth.
In 2016, Adele and Dean donated property and kicked off a capital campaign to build the Dean and Adele Bowden Youth and Family Clinic.
Today, this clinic allows YSS to serve youth and their families in a welcoming environment build on hope and opportunity.

Courtney's Story
Courtney was a single mom of five kids when a series of tragedies struck. In 2020, Courtney discovered her youngest daughter had experienced assault by a family member. Then her one-year-old nephew passed away unexpectedly. And her oldest son, a Type 1 diabetic, was admitted to the ICU three times and nearly died.
Courtney knew she needed help. In February, she enrolled both her daughter and herself in counseling at YSS of Hamilton County.
“If it wasn’t for the mental health services at YSS, I don’t know that my family would be OK,” Courtney says. “I continued to reach out and ask for help. I rely on the staff at YSS to continue supporting us—and without fail, they have.”

“I think YSS staff are excellent providers and I am thankful they now can meet all my family’s mental health needs in my own community.”

Tyler's Story
When Tyler’s great-grandparents, Art and Mae, adopted him as a child, they felt he needed extra support. So they connected him with therapy services at YSS of Hamilton County. Today, Tyler says YSS has made a huge difference in his life. He relies on his YSS mental health counselor to help him with everyday situations—from dealing with bullies at school to communicating effectively at home.
Tyler’s great-grandparents notice the benefits from YSS, too. On several occasions, therapy has helped bridge the age gap between Tyler and his great-grandparents, in addition to offering guidance as Tyler seeks more independence.
Mae is grateful Tyler has another trusting adult in his life. “Therapy is his personal space, and that’s important to a teenager," she says. "We’re really happy with YSS.”
