JOB DESCRIPTION

The Bilingual In-Home Family Services Counselor is responsible for providing in-home Spanish-speaking counseling services, facilitating community forums, and appearing in Juvenile Court on behalf of families in the JCS District 2 service area, primarily North Central Iowa.

 

Essential functions of this position include:

1. Deliver counseling services with an emphasis on a home setting, however, electronic means are allowable. Services may be outside of normal business hours to best accommodate families, including nights and weekends, and may be in English or Spanish. Total work hours not to exceed 40 hours per week.
2. Develop individual case plan within five (5) business days of meeting with referred youth specific to the needs of the client utilizing IDA in developing the case plan.
3. Communicate with referral entities of cases through weekly written updates, attending monthly meetings, and submitting monthly reports.
4. Provide a discharge summary within five (5) days of case being closed to the referring agency, discharge to include aftercare follow up.
5. Aid in the preparation of social investigations and make recommendations to JCS,
6. Attend training as needed/requested.
7. Appear in Juvenile Court on behalf of the child, family and/or the community, when necessary.
8. Assist in interpreting and translation as requested or needed, via phone, Skype, or in person.
9. Coordinate services provided by various agencies on behalf of clients.
10. Aid in the supervision and counsel of children and/or parents.
11. Monitor custodial arrangements and services provided by public and private agencies; will help noncustodial parents to remain involved in the client's life when in the best interest of the client.
12. Coordinate with local community service agencies and host/co-facilitate four (4) bilingual community forums and/or trainings annually as requested or approved by JCS. Ensure forums/trainings are open to the community, with an emphasis on outreach – two in Marshall County, and two within Humbolt, Wright or Franklin Counties.

REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or related field is required.
Must be fluent in oral and written Spanish. Must have completed or will complete within 6 months of hire: mandatory reporter certification, trauma informed care, interventions for cognitive restructuring, aggression, relationships, family and cultural competency training.
