IHYC is seeking two full-time Street Outreach Youth Advocates to provide support to youth and young adults who are precariously-housed, experiencing homelessness, or at-risk of experiencing homelessness through the Youth Opportunity Center, in community-based settings, in emergency shelters, in school settings, on the streets of Des Moines, in locations where young people may be, including camping areas, abandoned houses, near the railroad tracks and in other areas as needed/identified. The Street Outreach Youth Advocate will travel the streets of Des Moines in the MOHRY (Mobile Outreach Homeless and Runaway Youth) van to locate and reach out to homeless youth on the streets to whom the following services are offered: shelter, food, clothing, “survival kits”, crisis intervention and immediate access to victim services, counseling, needs assessment, and assistance in accessing medical services, appropriate programs, and other community resources. The Street Outreach Youth Advocate is tasked with engaging all youth and young adults to meet them where they are holistically..

Must be able to work evening hours.

A Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field is required.

Three years of experience working directly with homeless or at-risk youth can be substituted for the education component.
