  • Position Description:

    Teen Club is an after school program for youth grades 6-8. Our program mission is to provide a youth-driven program in which all participants are valued, develop positive relationships, and demonstrate social responsibility. The youth are involved in weekly community service learning projects and life lessons through topics, activities, reflection, and leadership opportunities.


    The Teen Club intern is responsible for assisting YSS to help advance the mission and program by:

    • Working in each Teen Club site as assigned
    • Implementing a classroom activity or cooperative game at each site
    • Assisting with recruitment of youth to the program
    • Interacting positively with youth while on-site
    • Assisting with Teen Club curriculum

    • Experience with middle school youth preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • All majors are accepted. The following majors are preferred: Human Services and related fields.


    Training, Supervision, and Benefits:

    • This is an unpaid internship.
    • Must attend an orientation to cover YSS policies regarding confidentiality, drug-free work environment, and child abuse reporting
    • Report to Site Supervisors as needed
    • Attend Teen Club staff meetings and other related agency meetings when appropriate
    • Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification (offered through YSS)
    • Must attend Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Training (offered online through YSS)

    • Ballard Middle School in Huxley
    • YSS Headquarters 420 Kellogg Ave. in downtown Ames


    Time Commitment/Requirements:

    • Must be 18 years or older
    • As assigned by the Site Supervisor
    • Work must be performed during the week
    • Must report hours to Volunteer Coordinator weekly
