Program Description:

The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention program provides comprehensive prevention, education, and intervention services to teens, parents, and communities.  Program services include age-appropriate, science-based sexual health curricula to teach sexual responsibility and pregnancy prevention and a free teen clinic to increase adolescents’ access to family planning services, including contraception and STI testing.  Individual counseling and parent education services are also provided.  These programs are offered in a variety of settings, including: schools, youth-serving agencies, social service organizations, churches, hospitals, clinics, community groups, PTO/PTA organizations and individual sessions.


The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention intern is responsible for assisting YSS to help advance the mission and program by:

  • Assist with planning and implementation of school based activities. Interns will teach themselves following a period of shadowing and co-teaching.
  • Collect data for evaluation and reporting purposes
  • Plan and implement community outreach events, including fundraising
  • Attend applicable trainings
  • Attend staff and advisory board meetings and community programs and meetings as assigned

Training, Supervision, and Benefits:

  • This is an unpaid internship.
  • Must attend an orientation to cover YSS policies regarding confidentiality, drug-free work environment, and child abuse reporting
  • Invited to attend any YSS all staff trainings that are available during internship period
  • Will attend conferences and trainings with APP staff as available during internship period
  • APP Intern is supervised by the APP Program Coordinator. Weekly supervision sessions will be provided



Services provided in Boone and Story Counties


Time Commitment/Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 hours/week
  • Must report hours to Volunteer Coordinator weekly
