The Self-Sufficiency Advocate provides aftercare services to former foster care recipients between the ages of 18 and 21 and PAL (Preparation for Adult Living) eligible participants. This service includes assessment and case management, as well as, assisting each young adult in moving toward self-sufficiency and self-responsibility.

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is required.
  • Two years of experience in direct human services work with high-risk youth or young adults and one year of experience in case management/advocacy is required.
  • Oversees and carries out all responsibilities identified in the Iowa Aftercare Services Network Contract
  • Provides face to face contact with each client a minimum of twice per month
  •  Has a working knowledge of the relevant sections of the Code of Iowa
  • Maintains collateral contacts with schools, employers, and therapists to monitor progress
  • Maintains close contact with the Program Director for the Supervised Apartment Living Program
  • Attends weekly clinical meetings.
  • Attends supervisory meetings as scheduled
  • Provides completed billing monthly. Ensures that all aspects of billing are included and that it is accurate.
  • Carries out all aspects of documentation requirements
  • Provides assessment and case management of young adults
  • Maintains contact with the client’s worker and report any major concerns immediately
  • Attends quarterly mandatory meetings and submits reports on time
  • Ensures the immediate safety and basic needs of each young adult
  • Transports clients when necessary
