The role:

As an Outpatient Addictions Counselor, you will address the needs of outpatient substance abuse clients who need assessment for chemical dependency and/or extended treatment for these and related issues while providing an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. You will be the primary counselor providing assessments as well as individual and group counseling for the youth.

What you will need:
  • Must have an Iowa Substance Abuse Counselor Certification, either a temporary-CADC or a CADC/IADC.
  • Two years of experience in individual, group, and family therapy, and formal training in the field of substance use disorders is required.
What you will do:
  • Leads groups and provides opportunities for group and individual feedback on the program and discusses problems and accomplishments.
  • Respects the individual client's rights to make his/her own decisions and to deal with the consequences and reactions to those decisions.
  • Observe all federal and state confidentiality and privacy regulations.
  • Takes an active role in the development of each client's treatment plan and implements the treatment plan.
  • Provides crisis intervention for clients.
  • Networks within the area to solicit referrals for the outpatient program - markets program to known and/or potential referral sources.
  • Conducts Substance Abuse Awareness Groups
  • Arranges for payment/funding for all clients including: Title XIX (Medicaid), private insurance, IMSACP Medicaid (assuring REVS line is checked), private funds, DHS, or court-ordered services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
