For more than 40 years, Francis Lauer Youth Services in Mason City has been helping youth and their families work through crises and find the best solution for all. In the event of an emergency or crisis, Francis Lauer offers short-term care for youth. We provide a safe setting for those needing placement outside of the home or respite care.

The role:

As a Youth Emergency Services Specialist, you will provide supervision and care for clients while providing a structured daily living routine, ensuring clients’ basic needs are being met, and documenting all client behaviors, peer interactions, and engagement in programming.

Work shifts may include a variety of day, afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

What you will need:
  • High School Diploma/equivalent is required.
  • One year of experience in the management and supervision of adolescents in a residential setting is preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license to meet requirements to drive agency vehicles.
What you will do:
  • Provide direct supervision of the clients, ensuring their presence and safety; responsible for knowing whereabouts and activities of clients at all times when supervising.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for clients and maintain professionalism at all times. Continually model respectful behavior, social skills, appropriate boundaries, and other behavior that will be expected from the clients.
  • Effectively manage client group dynamics.
  • Plan and facilitate group sessions as scheduled to instruct clients in basic social skills, and life skills, and provide other learning opportunities that are age and developmentally appropriate.
  • Provide crisis interventions as needed.
  • Receive calls for referral and placement; collect information and make referral connections to YSS or other community resources as needed according to the procedure.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable Community Resources in the community and surrounding communities in order to provide accurate information to callers in need of service.
  • Complete CWES Screening Tool for callers requesting service/placement; begin admission paperwork if the call results in placement.
  • Access supervisors/On-Call staff to identify the appropriate level of CWES engagement referral calls as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
