The Communications and Development Coordinator is responsible for assisting the administrative staff in communications, development, grant writing, marketing, and any other support functions as needed.

Duties include:

  • Facilitate the grant application process, i.e., writing applications and submissions (send to Grant Writer at YSS, Ames for review and approval before submission), maintaining and updating files, submit thank you letters for awards, maintain grant report/worksheet and reminder dates, working with Community-Based Center Director and staff to implement the process to complete and track the expenditure of grant awards.
  • Development and Marketing - assist in preparation of fundraising programs, i.e., An Evening with Francis, Man Cave Crawl, Little Wishes, etc.; prepare mailings, spreadsheets, track donations, generate thank you letters, develop reports, coordination of workers, printing projects, and mass mailings through Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge Software Program; coordinate and provide input on collaterals (signage, logos, stationery, brochures, business cards) with VP of Philanthropy and Development and Director of Marketing and Communications; work within the Community Engagement Team, taking part in conference calls, etc.
  • Assist with general reception duties, answering phone calls and directing calls to appropriate department, greeting visitors and callers, directing them to the appropriate staff or other available services, and assists with ensuring of the general tidiness of the facility.
  • Post and distribute Wahoosletter and additional announcements to staff.
  • Assist Community-Based Center Director with completion of the Annual Report and submission to YSS in Ames.
  • Assist Program Managers with any local scheduling of staff development and tracking not utilized in HR Portal and scheduling of meeting room space (Outlook).
  • Manage social media platforms, ensuring information shared is appropriate and relevant to YSS mission, vision and values.
  • Ensure all communication/content distributed internally and to the local community are accurate and complete. This includes working with Community Engagement Team to ensure alignment with branding standards.
  • Prepare materials and support for all staff meetings and local Advisory Board.
  • Researching, identifying, and writing stories highlighting the impact YSS has on the lives of those we serve in a variety of formats.

A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, PR, business education, or business administration is required. One year of experience in grant writing, public relations/nonprofit organizational management, or event planning is required.

Proficiency with Social Media platforms including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, is essential.

Adobe Creative Cloud/Suite experience is preferred.
