The ARNP provides psychiatric evaluations to children and adolescents and prescribes medications as medically appropriate to individuals served, frequently at the direction of the psychiatrist.  The ARNP manages medication clinics assisting psychiatrists providing general medical screenings, facilitating documentation and prescription transfer, medication education, and calling in authorizations as needed during regular clinic hours.

The ARNP along with Nurse Care Managers is primarily responsible for facilitating patient care, anticipating patient medical care needs, individualizing patient care and adjusting or modifying the nursing plan of care as appropriate. The ARNP will utilize effective technical skills for the provision of safe and appropriate care for providing care to high-risk clients.

The ARNP also provides medical consultation and general medical care for special populations.

Licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) as issued by the Iowa Board of Nursing and National Certification is required. NPI and DEA numbers must be in good standing with the Iowa Pharmacy Board.

Knowledge and work experience with pediatrics and families with core competencies in addiction, mental health and child welfare is required.
