Meet the Team: Brittany Behr

Brittany Behr is the Campus Director at YSS of North Iowa. Brittany joined the YSS and Ember Recovery team in November 2023.

“The history and mission of YSS appealed to me in addition to the organizational culture. There is a sense of community and a common purpose.”

Brittany’s responsibilities include daily oversight of the youth shelter at YSS of North Iowa and she will be overseeing Ember Recovery of North Iowa young adult program for males ages 18-24.

Coming soon, Ember Recovery will be offering the first and only addiction treatment program in Iowa specifically for young adult males (ages 18-24). Providing effective treatment for this age demographic is critical, as many addiction treatment centers are focused on older adults. In a recovery-focused environment, clients can assess the impact of their substance use addiction on themselves and loved ones. The North Iowa young adult program is not open yet but will be accepting referrals soon.

Brittany’s favorite part of working at YSS is being a part of something bigger than herself, getting to work with youth, and training staff on how to work with youth. Brittany has worked in various social work positions for over 25 years outside of the Mason City community but returned to her hometown to help area youth and families.

“It doesn’t get much better than that for me. It makes me happy to be back in my home community. I get to play a part in impacting people and families where I grew up and that feels good.”

In her free time, Brittany enjoys canoeing or being on the water, playing cornhole, baking, and traveling whenever she can. Thank you, Brittany, for all you do for the youth and families of Ember Recovery!
