Intern Spotlight: Meet Brenda

After working in law enforcement and serving in the military for over two decades, Brenda Safranski wanted to make a change. Specifically, she wanted to help youth.

Brenda is now a student at Upper Iowa University studying to be a licensed mental health counselor. This semester, she is a master’s level treatment intern at YSS, where she is thrilled to be putting her education to action.

“I’m ready to utilize my educational skills in working with clients of all ages,” Brenda says. “I once heard a medical professional say, ‘I don’t have to go to work; I get to go to work.’ I want my internship at YSS to emulate this praise.”

Brenda believes that an emotionally healthy work environment is key to fostering a positive culture. She chose to intern at YSS because of its “phenomenal reputation.”

“I love the aspect that staff work with children, teens, adults, and families,” she explains. “In addition, YSS offers so many services and educational opportunities.”
