Courtney's Story

In 2020, Courtney enrolled her youngest daughter in counseling at YSS to deal with her anxiety and trauma. A few months later, Courtney—a single mom of five kids—experienced a series of tragic events in her own life. She realized she, too, needed extra support.

Thankfully, both Courtney and her daughter found the help they needed at YSS.

"If it wasn’t for the mental health services at YSS, I don’t know that my family would be OK," Courtney says. "I continued to reach out and ask for help. I rely on the staff at YSS to continue helping us—and without fail, they have."

About Our Services

Mental Health Therapy
Our experts provide caring, non-judgmental support, including a clinical assessment and diagnosis, to help you begin your positive mental health journey.

Substance Use Counseling
Our substance use counselors are trained to help youth and adults with substance use disorder. We provide substance use evaluations, individual/group counseling, and OWI evaluations.

Psychiatric Consultation/Medication Management
We guide treatment through evaluation, assessment, and diagnosis. When appropriate, we can use prescribed medication as a tool to address your behavioral and mental health disorders.

Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS)
In BHIS, a Medicaid-funded program, we teach families helpful skills to positively address their child’s behaviors, including anger management, conflict resolution, social skills, and communication.

Integrated Health Services (IHS)
Our IHS program connects families with resources to help their child be successful at home, school, and in the community.

Access and Visitation Program
We provide mediation and visitation counseling for families going through a separation or divorce. Our staff will assist in allowing the non-custodial parent to spend time with their child in a monitored environment.

About Our Specialties

Play Therapy
In play therapy, we work with your child in their natural language of "play" to help them develop coping skills, responsibility, and self-control.

Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS)
STEPPS is a treatment program to help clients with borderline personality disorder to understand and manage their behaviors and feelings.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR therapy helps you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
PCIT is a family-focused approach for young children with disruptive behavior disorders or risk factors such as ADHD or developmental delays.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is for youth who have experienced trauma, helping the parents and child address behavioral and emotional effects of early trauma.

Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT)
MDFT is comprehensive, family-centered therapy for youth struggling with addiction.

Tyler's Story

When Tyler’s great-grandparents, Art and Mae, adopted him as a child, they felt he needed extra support. So they connected him with therapy services at YSS.

Four years later, Tyler—now 14 years old—says YSS has made a huge difference in his life. He relies on his YSS mental health counselor to help him with everyday situations—from dealing with bullies at school to communicating effectively at home.

Tyler’s great-grandparents notice the benefits from YSS, too. “As parents, we don’t have all the answers,” Mae says. “Therapy is Tyler's personal space, and that’s important to a teenager. We’re really happy with YSS.”
